An example of a service line. The system-owned portion spans from the water main connector to the property boundary or curb stop. The customer-owned portion is the part of the service line that extends from the curb stop to the meter box or isolation valve in the building’s premise plumbing.
Service Line Inventories
As part of the Lead and Copper Rule Revision, every community and non-transient non-community (NTNC) water system was required to complete an initial service line inventory (SLI) in 2024. Initial SLIs included a list of all service lines connected to the public drinking water distribution system, Vermont Enhanced-911 addresses, and material categorization for each service line.
For systems with non-potable service lines (e.g. fire lines, irrigation lines) that are served by the public drinking water distribution system, a non-potable initial service line inventory was also required.
