Full-Time Police Officer
The Wilmington Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time police officer position.
We are seeking positive, self-motivated individuals to join our police force, individuals who want to contribute to community engaging activities and making Wilmington a safer place for all that live and visit here. Our officers work four days per week 10 hours each day for 40 hours with the expectation of working overtime as needed. Elective overtime is available to officers including highway safety patrols, snowmobile patrols, boat patrols and police details.
Officers will receive paid vacation; VMERS plan D retirement (20 year), paid sick time, health insurance, deferred comp (elective) and holiday pay. Pay rate for full time certified officers starting at $45760 and higher depending on experience. Persons who are not already certified starting pay is $41,600 (plus shift differentials, overtime and holiday pay).
Preference to applicants already Vermont full time certified. VT certified FT police officers may be eligible for a hiring bonus of up to $7500. Full time certified police applicants from out of state who qualify for a waiver certification from the VJCTC would be eligible for a hiring bonus up to $5000.
Applicants at minimum must be, a U.S. citizen, minimum age of 21; have a valid driver’s license; high school diploma (college degree preferred). Applicant must be able to perform all the functions involved with police duties. Must be able to pass all police testing, including a physical fitness examination, polygraph, oral board, medical exam, fingerprint check and extensive background check will be required of applicants selected for hire.
