The boil water notice has been lifted for Castle Hill, Depot St, Shafter St, Shafter St Ext, and Whitney Lane

Press Release
DRINKING WATER WARNING
Town of Wilmington, Vermont
February 24, 2026
AFFECTED AREA (LOCALIZED NOTICE ONLY)
This Boil Water Notice applies ONLY to customers located on Castle Hill Road (between Whitney Lane and Shafter Street), Whitney Lane, Shafter Street, and Depot Street. Approximately 26 buildings are affected. Notices were issued to these customers by posting on building doors and/or in-person.
All other areas of the Wilmington water system are NOT affected.
WHY IS THIS NOTICE BEING ISSUED?
On February 23, 2026, the Town of Wilmington Water Department identified a loss of water pressure due to a water main leak. A loss of pressure can allow bacteria or other contaminants to enter the drinking water system. Until repairs are completed and water quality testing confirms the water is safe, your drinking water may be unsafe in affected areas.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute, then allow it to cool. Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, and washing dishes. Bathing, showering, and clothes washing are acceptable, provided water is not swallowed.
WHAT IS BEING DONE?
The Water Department is working with leak detection specialists to locate and repair the leak, believed to be in an 8-inch water main around Castle Hill bridge. Once repairs are completed and water service is restored, bacteriological water samples will be collected. This notice will remain in effect until test results confirm the water meets all drinking water standards.
WHEN WILL THIS NOTICE BE LIFTED?
You will be notified when water testing confirms that the drinking water is safe and this Boil Water Notice is lifted. The Town anticipates that the issue may be resolved within 48–72 hours, once the affected water line is identified and repairs are completed, depending on repair and testing results.
