MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM

The Town of Wilmington is seeking a Director for its middle school summer recreation program that will run half-days Monday through Friday for 4 weeks beginning in early July. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating and facilitating all aspects of the middle school summer rec program and has direct supervision of student counselors and children enrolled in the program.
The 4-week program runs from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM with two additional afternoon programs required per week. The Director is expected to be on-site from 8 am until approximately 12:30 to supervise breakfast and lunch and set up the day’s activities. The Director is also expected to coordinate and participate in diverse activities of interest to participants entering grade 5 to grade 8.
The Director works closely with the Wilmington Recreation Committee and reports to the Town Manager while exercising individual initiative and independent action. A successful candidate will have a desire to work with children as well as experience in the field. Other requirements include dependability, self-motivation, creativity, enthusiasm, and supervisory skills. The successful candidate will have to pass a criminal background check. General Statement of Duties:
Plans, coordinates and facilitates recreational and arts and crafts activities with student counselors. Supervises breakfast and lunch times. Shall be present for all program hours.
Works closely with the Town of Wilmington Recreation Committee. Receives supervision directly from the Town Manager while exercising individual initiative and independent action.
Is responsible for direct supervision of student counselors and for children enrolled in the program.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Plan recreational and arts and crafts activities for a four-week program that runs from 9 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on weekdays beginning in early July. The Monday through Friday workweek is approximately 22 hours per week. Additionally, there are two afternoon programs each week.
Coordinate and participate in diverse activities of interest to youngsters from students entering grade 5 to grade 8.
Keep a daily sheet of participants by name, a list of daily activities with notes about the interest in the daily program and help collect fees from attendees.
Desire to work with children, dependability, self-motivation, creativity, and enthusiasm. Experience working with children a must. Experience in adventure activities a plus. The successful candidate will have to pass a criminal record check.
